Building Trust.
Applying AI.

The Context covers how AI systems behave, where trust breaks down, and what that means for the decisions organisations actually face. It is published by Prompting Trust.

What Prompting Trust is

Prompting Trust is the publisher. It exists to produce and distribute The Context - a regular briefing on AI, trust, and security - and to maintain the relationship with readers over time.

The name reflects the subject matter directly. Prompting is the primary interface through which most people now interact with AI systems. Trust is what determines whether those interactions are safe, reliable, and worth acting on. The publication sits at that intersection.

Prompting Trust is an imprint of Synoptikon. That relationship matters for what readers can access, which is explained below.

What The Context does

The Context is the flagship publication. Each edition takes a specific development - a model behaviour, a policy shift, a documented failure, a research finding - and works through what it means in practice.

The format varies depending on what the subject requires. Some editions are short and direct. Others are longer, structured analyses - what we call a Big Read - where the mechanism needs more space to be explained properly. The distinction is not about length for its own sake; it is about matching the treatment to the complexity of the question.

The Context does not aggregate headlines or restate press releases. It does not predict the future of AI or argue for a particular position on the technology. It explains how things work, where the evidence points, and what that implies for people who have to make real decisions.

Synoptikon

Synoptikon is the research and analysis practice behind Prompting Trust. Where The Context covers a topic that warrants deeper treatment - structured frameworks, detailed case material, practical assets - that work is produced under the Synoptikon name and made available to readers with appropriate access.

Synoptikon material is produced for a different purpose and at a different depth than the briefing. When it is relevant to what The Context has covered, readers are given a link to reach it.

David Hawks

David Hawks is the primary author of The Context and the principal at Synoptikon.

His work focuses on how AI systems are designed to behave, how that behaviour is governed, and where the gap between the two creates risk. He writes from a practitioner orientation - interested in mechanisms and evidence rather than position-taking.

The Context reflects that approach. The analysis is grounded in what is documented and observable. Where something is uncertain, that is stated. Where a claim requires qualification, it is qualified.
